Summertime in Pōrangahau is a bare foot wander to the golden sand Te Paerahi beach where you can surf cast, fly kites, ride blow carts on a windy day or simply soak up some sunshine and it is home to some incredible fishing and diving spots and summer events.

Whether you are after a camping, cultural, historic or beach experience, Pōrangahau has got the goods.

Getting there

The best road to Pōrangahau is to take Pōrangahau Road south out of Waipukurau. Turn left in to the small settlement of Pōrangahau after about 40 km (allow an hour to drive there from Waipukurau). Drive through Pōrangahau past the store and turn right on to Beach Road. Follow the road round and right over the bridge to the beach.

Don't miss

The place with longest name in the world is just a few kilometres south of Pōrangahau township on Wimbledon Road (which joins on to Route 52).
