Port Sandy Beach

Port Sandy beach is a sheltered beach on the north of Napier Hill, alongside Napier Port. Its shallow waters make it popular in summer for swimming, especially with families.

A popular spot with locals, beside the busy Napier Port - which has set aside safe swimming in the designated zone inside the orange buoys. Only swimmers and non-motorised craft like kayaks, paddle boards and surf training boats are allowed within this area. If you’re swimming long distance, there's a 2km loop starting at Perfume Point, marked with yellow buoys.

Napier Port have provided a shower on the grass verge so you can wash away the sand and salt before you leave.

There's adjacent parking spaces off Breakwater Road, while the cycleway passes right by. Beach access requires crossing a railway line, so please supervise children closely.

Dogs are welcome, please keep them under control.
