The beach is a white sandy one, safe for swimming, relaxing, picnics, walking and surfing when conditions are right. At certain times of the year, it is possible to observe dolphins frolicking in the surf. Toilets available
Fishing
A number of large tuatua beds dot the area. These change position from time to time depending on winter and summer storms. Large rays and kahawai are the main inhabitants of the beach, but the occasional good-sized snapper is taken in the evenings.
Surfing
Opoutama is great for learners - a safe ride on small southerlies. It's a long, sandy beach break taking S-SW swells with N-NE offshore. Variety of beach breaks.
