Mohi Bush is considered the best reserve on the Maraetotara Plateau for people to explore. The tracks are fairly flat and the walking easy.
Explore Mohi Bush and see if you can spot the tiny rifleman, New Zealand's smallest bird. This is one of the few places in Hawke's Bay where it can be found outside forest parks.
The short loop runs through the middle of the reserve and takes around 30min, while the long loop takes you to the far end of the reserve - approx. 1hr 15min. Both tracks pass an abundance of seedlings and ferns growing beneath podocarps such as miro and matai.
Getting there
Head south on Waimarama Road, turning right onto Maraetotara Road. Follow for 16km, before turning right onto Waipoapoa Rd. Follow for 2km to Mohi Bush Scenic Reserve, located on the left. The carpark is on grass area in front of shelter.
