Te Awa o Mokotūāraro (formerly the Clive River) follows the original course of the lower section of the Ngaruroro River that flows for about 7km from Pakowhai Road Bridge northeast of Hastings, to join the mouth of the Ngaruroro River flowing into Hawke Bay.

The awa (river) is a popular spot for water sports, and on most weekend days around the stretch of the river by the Clive Bridge, you're bound to see people out rowing, jetskiing or perhaps even a spot of wakeboarding.

Hugging the awa from the bridge towards the sea on both sides are sections of the Hawke's Bay Trails - on the true left of the river is the start/end of the Water Ride, and on the true right is the start/end of the Landscapes Ride. If you're feeling up for some exercise, head along the walkway (on foot or bike) towards the coast and then follow the track south towards the Tukituki River mouth and enjoy the Tutkituki Wetlands.
